Ask the Wood Wizard!

Question:

Is pre-finished wood flooring more expensive than having unfinished wood flooring installed and then sanded and finished on site?

Answer:

When polyurethane pre-finished wood flooring was introduced close to two decades ago, the price was considerably higher than unfinished, site finished wood flooring. Today, with the wood flooring industry booming, competition has evened the score. Not only do you not spend more on pre-finished flooring, after the ease of the project is realized due to no dust and mess(especially on remodels), you wonder why you'd even think of sanding and finishing with the choices out there!
